This store is a collection of goods that are thoughtful and unique, that is creative and capture the closeness to life. These goods are a celebration of creation itself. They make a connection with heart because they are created with the core human values. And hence there’s joy and happiness in possessing them.
Why we started
We wanted to gift our clients and friends
In the holiday season of ‘17, when we were sending gifts to our US clients. We decided to send them silk scarfs which we spotted in Bali at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport during our last visit. Those beautifully crafted scarfs felt like the perfect gift and luckily, one of our friends in Indonesia agreed to help us in sourcing those. But things didn’t go as we planned and because of volcanic eruptions and unforeseen events, we couldn’t get those scarfs on time. As a last resort, we sent woolen scarves from GAP as gifts. They though served the purpose didn’t leave a satisfied feeling behind. The itch remained and a couple of months went by.
We were looking for something creative, and thoughtful
It was that time of the year when the ColoredCow team visited Surajkund Mela together. We share a fondness for the variety of creative products this ensemble of artists and craftsmen coming from all over India bring with them. It is here we met the Kashmiri artisan who ignited a new hope in us.
Which cannot be achieved by mass-produced goods
In his display, he showed us passion, the story behind the creations he carried and its uniqueness. His products showed someone’s thoughtful effort to create something meaningful. Something which definitely could not be achieved through mass production.
In the process, we came across a product that was creative, unique, thoughtful, and close to life. We spotted a scarf that displayed all the characteristics of the product which we could have gifted to our clients. The product was such that we all wanted to have one for ourselves as well. So without hesitation, we bought them. Happy to have finally found a good product we were almost about to leave when another lucky encounter happened. Just towards the exit, we spotted another artisan with a display of bamboo boxes. Its craft and closeness to life attracted us and we went ahead to have a look. While browsing through her collection we saw a possibility of putting the scarf in the boxes to create a complete gift.
We enjoyed the process and wanted to do more
The two goods came together beautifully as a single product. This made the team and the artisan beam with joy and hope. We were excited to have found a product that completed the gift and that artisan was delighted that her product was appreciated and sold in a go. It was a collaboration that made everyone happy. This particular episode motivated us and opened up a possibility to do more of it. To connect with more artisans and their products, to connect with the stories.
But we can’t keep gifting
We realized gifting can’t be a sustainable way of looking out and collecting such characteristic goods. But could there be another way for these goods to reach the people who think like us and feel the same way? Sharing could be a way…
We’re committed to sharing these creations
Sharing these creations is a joyful act for us, and for the people who would be happy to have them. This got us thinking, other than gifting or referring the source as a way of sharing, what else can be the way.
That way we have more freedom to curate more such products
We decided to open our curations for our close network of people. We were happy to share the source of the product when we were asked about it but what if we could somehow make it easy for them to have it as well. But sharing didn’t end here.
It sounds interesting and we launched the store
These products with stories, and so full of life had a way of connecting with us since they were made with core human values. We were happy owners of these goods and saw that others were too so we thought of another way of making it available for all. We launched a store.
We created a limited number of a single product, only that much we can gift.
We collected a limited stock of these special goods which could be gifted to our client in the next season or shared with friends on special occasions. We believed that the product would create value for everyone in many ways. And so we didn’t stop ourselves from launching this limited edition of products on our store as well.
We believe that if we keep looking we will find more people or artist whose product we can curate. We recognized others’ creation better
In this process, so many people who believe in this concept will be happy owners of such goods and would find it effortless to gift it forward. In our quest to curate, we would give way to artists and craftsmen to create more and make us a part of this celebration.
We will keep collecting such products and keep sharing with you
This store will be our way to keep collecting such products and sharing with you. And create a channel that would enrich our lives with a meaningful collection of goods. Something that resonates with our lifestyle and helps grow our personality.
